Chateau and Canal

Sumptuous brunch to enjoy and history to experience, all with a private guide!

The Chateau Laurier Hotel, Ottawa’s “Grande Dame”, is right in the centre of downtown. So is the Bytown Museum which depicts the building of the Rideau Canal.
Sit alongside the canal while you enjoy a sumptuous brunch. Learn about the hotel and its famous residents.

Take the stairs down to the canal level and visit the canal exhibit. Learn how the locks work and what it took to build them. Explore the Bytown Museum, the original commissary for the building of the canal. Here you’ll find lots of artifacts from the period and of early Ottawa’s history.

An optional extra is a boat tour. Regularly scheduled rides are available on the Ottawa River or the Rideau Canal. Should you wish to take one, tickets can be purchased after breakfast.

The canal is closed for winter but the locks and museum can be viewed. Boat tour options run May 10 to October 10 approximately.
