How the Pioneers Did it

Upper Canada Village takes you back in time….

The park is a re-created settlement representing Ontario around the year 1860. It is about an hour’s drive from downtown Ottawa. Costumed animators perform daily tasks which were part of pioneer life, from food preparation to farming tasks, to industrial work. Get a sense of how various classes lived, worked, and worshiped. Visit a one room school. Buy fresh-baked bread and cheese curds you just saw being made.
A period restaurant serves lunch or choose the snack bar. Visit the souvenir shop. A busy and interesting day.
There are a couple of shorter stops en route to highlight special attractions.

The Village is open May to October and selected other times – e. g. Christmas light show.
